Annual Inspections
No matter if your home is on a slab or crawlspace foundation, Pestco will give 100% to the inspection of your home to make sure there are no visible signs of active termites present.
Inspecting a Crawlspace Home
Ideally, crawlspace homes are the best cases to find termites because most of the time, the termites are found before it reaches the main portion of the home.
When inspecting a crawlspace home for termites, the inspector will need access to the crawlspace and to any slab structures such as a garage.
Pestco's inspector will enter the crawlspace through the crawl door, and begin their visual inspection while going through every part of your crawlspace. Inspecting the foundation, footings, floor joists, posts, girders, ect... Throughout this inspection, the representative will be taking moisture readings throughout. Any moisture reading over 20% are conditions that are conducive to termites and other wood destroying organisms.
Once the crawlspace has been fully inspected, the door will be placed back accordingly and the inspection of the slab structure will begin if applicable.
Inspecting a Slab Home
It is important to have your home inspected every year especially if you are on a slab structure. Most of the time when termites are found within a home constructed on a slab, the termites have begun their damage.
Termites can access your home through the cracks that form in the slab over time, utilizes entry points such as drains, pipes, utility lines, ect... Termites can simply come up the side of the slab on the exterior to reach the outer portion of your home. Most of the time termites are found in window sills, door frames, and hardwood floors.
When a Pestco inspector shows up for the annual inspection of your slab home, he or she will break out their flashlight and do some light knocking along the baseboards, window sills, door frames, under sinks, around appliances, hot water heaters, drains and pipes, and more. If any areas appear to have any water damage, they may take out their moisture meter to make sure the conditions are not too high. Once the inside of the home has been fully inspected, then an inspection of the exterior will be performed which includes porches/patios.
Upon completed inspection, the Pestco representative will document their findings and any pictures that were taken. All documents will be emailed and stored in the customer's portal.

Carpenter Bees
Yes, those pesky bee looking insects that buzz around every spring boring holes into your porch railing and creating a decent size pile of yellow bee bread is a wood destroying insect called the Carpenter Bee!
What exactly are these carpenter bees doing and how do we control them?
The female carpenter bee bores an oval shaped hole into wood, goes in an inch and turns to follow the grain of the wood. Upon finding a perfect place, she deposits her egg and leaves the hole.
In order to control carpenter bees, Pestco may dust the holes and/or apply labeled insecticide to the area. The key is allowing the carpenter bee to leave the hole then immediately seal it to make sure the bee doesn't reuse the hole in the future. If the hole gets sealed with the bee still inside, then secondary damage can occur from wood peckers going after the bee.

Termite Study
In 2025, Pestco partnered with NC State University and North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services to conduct a study on formosan termites in eastern North Carolina. There has only been two sightings of formosan termites in North Carolina: 1992 in Brunswick County in railroad ties and in 1994 in Rutherford County. Since then, there has not been any known sightings of formosan termites in North Carolina.
With the help of our managers and owners, we set up traps in New Hanover, Pender, and Columbus counties in areas where formosan termites are known to be: near railroad tracks, under street lights, near the port and other water sources. After several months of checking and waiting for the termite swarming season to end, no formosan termites were found.
We look forward to working with NC State and NCDA&CS Structural Pest Control Department in the future for any other studies they may conduct!
